Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment
Wondering whether an assessment is right for you?
If your child is struggling with reading, writing, spelling or broader areas of learning such as memory, sequencing or processing, you may be considering a full diagnostic assessment to identify dyslexia. To help you with making this often difficult decision, please look at my blog post 'Reasons to Assess'.
What age do you assess?
Assessment with Dyslexia Evaluations starts at 8 years of age to ensure compliance with the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC), the governing body for specialist assessors. If your child is younger than this, please contact me to discuss how I can help.
What I offer
I offer a full diagnostic dyslexia assessment to identify a young person's challenges as well as their strengths. A thorough and detailed report is included which provides essential information going forward. This can be used to plan an intervention programme and to put adjustments in place at school and at home. It can also be used to apply for Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs), with the agreement of the child's school, and to support an application for a Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) for further education.
The Assessment Process
Initial contact:
I offer a free video or telephone call to discuss your child's difficulties and your concerns. This may determine that an assessment is not required. If an assessment is indicated, a date will be agreed for this and will be confirmed by email.
Step 1:
You will receive a parental questionnaire, a school questionnaire and one for your child to complete. This is an essential part of gathering full background information on all relevant aspects of your child's health, well-being and learning. An eyesight check will be required unless this has been done within the past year. Rarely, a hearing check may also be requested.
Step 2:
Once the questionnaires and any ear and eye checks are complete, the assessment then takes place on the agreed date. This can take place all on one day or over two days, depending on the needs of your child. The timings and arrangements are flexible and are planned around your child's needs with plenty of fun mini breaks.

Step 3
The diagnostic report will be password protected and sent to parents securely via email.
Step 4
A final consultation is included to discuss the report. This is either in-person or via video call. This allows parents the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
Full details are provided upon booking an assessment.

Assessment for Exam Access Arrangements
In addition to assessing for dyslexia, I also conduct assessments for Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs), working either with schools or with parents. This must be carried out in line with JCQ guidance, therefore for parents, please contact the Exams Officer at your child's school or exams centre before contacting me. For schools, please contact me directly.
